When three couples come to visit, I can’t help but write a recap newsletter to let everyone know just how much fun we had.
Nesbitt and Andrea arrived at my house on Friday at 5pm. We grabbed some supplies for the weekend, I took them on the 8-second tour of my apartment and we were on our way. Before heading to dinner, Sean and Jill popped by to see my place (they were staying at a nearby hotel) and we all had a nice catch up.
As per usual, I took Ryan and Andrea to my rooftop and then to Double Zero. I was glad to hear they enjoyed the plant-based pizza, and it was nice to hear what’s new with them.
Post dinner, we headed to the Lower East Side for some over-priced cocktails and an amazing view from the rooftop at Last Light to cap off an awesome Friday.
Saturday was a big, fun group day. The three of us grabbed bagels (obviously) then walked a couple miles to the southern tip of Manhattan where we met everyone for a boat cruise out of Battery Park. This included Danny and Lyndsey who were in town visiting Danny’s aunt and uncle.
I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting New York. It wasn’t too crowded, provided great views of The Statue of Liberty, lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, and there’s even a bar on board.
After the cruise we went for team drinks and appetizers before parting ways to separately get ready for an evening of fun. We met up after dinner for a live comedy show at the renowned Comedy Cellar. In fact we were at the Cellar’s sister restaurant, the Village Underground and all of the comedians were amazing. As a nice surprise, Sarah Silverman went up fourth to try out some new material so that was pretty cool! I had always heard of celebrities doing that but never thought I’d actually witness someone of her fame in such a small club. Certainly a New York moment.
Sunday was a giant day. Started with a classic NYC boozy brunch. Basically they give you a time limit for bottomless mimosas, bloody Mary’s, and sangria. Obviously this can contribute to binge drinking before noon so I normally never attend these, but when you have a guy like Ryan in town, you go just out of curiosity to see how far he can push the limits. Similar to a golfer wanting to know the course record, Ryan wanted to understand the bar that had been set previously for bottles of champagne and orange juice. All in good fun and we had an amazing time.
From there I took them to the office to show them the views of midtown, then we chilled in Central Park on a beautiful afternoon before heading back downtown to prepare for dinner. We went to a fantastic spot, Beauty and Essex for dinner and drinks before meeting up with my buddy Dave (fellow Winnipegger) and his girlfriend for a night cap.
Unfortunately I had to leave to LaGuarida on Monday morning before they left my apartment, but the whirlwind trip was certainly one for the books. So much laughter, some great business, career and life chats, and I was so grateful they made the trek from Winnipeg to gain a small glimpse into my new life.

Mike
